A solution of phenol (C6H5OH) in ethyl alcohol (C2H5OH) is 21.5% phenol by mass. What is the mole fraction of Phenol in the solution.Please give me the formula with its answer of this question for that I can answer the question from another problem please.

molecular wt of phenol=94

wt of phenol in soln=21.5(percentage by wt.)

mole fraction=wt of subst/mol wt of subst

=21.5/94

=0.22872

The description of solutions must be prec isely defined so that mistakes do not occur. This is particularly true of solutions of a liquid in another liquid. In this case you are dealing with a solid (phenol) dissolved in a liquid, ethanol.

25.1% phenol by mass must be further defined as to whether you are talking about a m/v (mass/volume) solution or an m/m (mass/mass) solution. When dealing with molarity by definition we deal with a mass/volume solution - 1 mol/ litre

Your solution would then be 215g phenol dissolved up to 1 litre with ethanol.

Molar mass phenol = C6 = 6*12 = 72g

H5 = 5*1 = 5 and OH = 17 = 94.

Number of mols phenol dissolved to 1l = 215/94= 2.287

Molarity of 21.5% phenol in ethanol = 2.287M

Note the molar mass of the ethanol plays no part in this .

see if looking your molar mass enables it could be..... (12.01x3)+(a million.01x8)+(sixteen)= 60.11g/mol (it enables to memorize the molar mass of straightforward components) what unit is the respond in thatmight help fifty six.0gx mol/60.11g=0.931625mol then you definately're on your individual....... what chem are you in btw? 20? 30? college? cuz i bypass from a documents of like a million/2 of chem 30 (gr. 12)
