i took chem this year. i didnt do so well. i dont kno any chem actually. the thing is i only worked for the grade, and i didnt learn anything. the only thing i kno is basic stociometry, simple acid base problems, simple equilibrium problems, basic enthalpy/entropy problems. i dont kno wat orbitals are. i dont kno hybridization. i screw up on hard equilibrium problems. i dont kno basic organic chem. am i screwed? do i need to go back and learn that stuff? man, this sucks =\

You will definitley struggle in organic chem without having a strong general chemsitry background. That having been said, don't panic! Your organic chemistry teacher will have to go over the relevant topics from general chemstry (that maybe you didn't learn so well the first time around) and re-teach them while explaining their relevance to the new organic chemistry topic. All this means is that this time around, you'll have to really pay attention and get extra help if you need it instead of kind of breezing through these topics (like those who have a strong background will be able to do). To make it easy on yourself I would go over basic things (especially hybridization and equilibrium) before the class starts. If you do that and you're willing to put in some hard work during the class, then I think you'll do fine. Also, organic chemsitry is MUCH more interesting than general chemsitry so studying it won't seem like such a chore. Good luck!

Organic chemistry deals with a lot of reaction mechanisms and synthesis. If you don't know basic organic chemistry, it would be in your best interest to learn it before going into organic chemistry. Also, many reaction mechanisms require a basic knowledge of orbitals and hybridisation. Plus, the branch known as physical organic chemistry relies heavily on formulae and reaction rates. It is not always taught, but be prepared for it.

organic and organic and organic and organic chemistry lab is time eating. physics and biology are 3 hr each and every week each and each and o chem a minimum of four. many times subjects dont artwork out and a few people spend 6 hour a week only in lab. this does now not contain training for lab and does now not contain lecture time... no, until you're a proficient "speedo" you will desire to now not take all of it on an identical time.

It is kind of different from the chem you took, bt you still come across a lot of basics like equilibrium, group numbers, bonds,....

I would say going over stuff is going to help.

good Luck
