How to Make Flash Powder out of simple household items

•Sugar

•Salt Peter (Potassium Perchlorate)

Step

1Go to a local hardware store or pharmacy to purchase Salt Peter/Potassium Perchlorate, make sure its the purest possible (Stump removers and fertilizers works best). There are now some new products that are 99.9% pure Potassium Perchlorate, also make sure the package you buy is powdery, if its not then crush it until it is fine powder.

Step

2I will not give you exact measurements for this powder, however you will need a mixture of half sugar/charcoal and half Potassium Perchlorate. Mix this slowly and carefully, make sure if you mix these two chemicals in a plastic bag or anything of the sort first spray it down with anti-static spray. You must mix these two products until the powder is grey and as fine as possible. To make this more explosive, add 10% sulfur during the mix which will create a moderate burning fuel, be very careful with sulfur as it is highly sensitive to friction and impact.

Step

3Once you have mixed the two(three) substances you can now add another chemical into the mix which will act as an even greater oxidizer. Take a sparkler and shave it until all the stick is turned into powder (or however much you need depending). When heated these chemical byproducts will react with each other creating an explosion.

.Tips & Warnings

Make sure you measure both the sugar and Potassium Perchlorate as precise as possible. The legal limit for flash powder in fireworks is 50mg, don't be caught with over this limit.Be very careful when mixing the sunstances. The finished product and many of the chemicals used are high flammable and explosive, handle with care

Flash Powder is considered a high explosive by the BATFE. Making it is a federal crime, if you're caught you will most likely go to jail and get labeled as a terrorist for making homemade bombs, I'm seen it happen.

If you want to make flash powder legally get a Type 20 High Explosive Manufacturing License from the BATFE. Otherwise your taking a huge risk with your life and your future.

I work in the fireworks business and I know waaaaay to many people in jail, with missing limbs or who have died playing with flash powder, it's really not worth the risk.

I don't think I'd recommend putting any chemicals together unless you have an urgent desire to go to prison under the right charges. I doubt anyone here would want to tell you what chemicals to use even if they knew what they were. You got a computer to find out yourself. You may get a house call from BATFE but that's what happens when you start searching the net for that kind of info.

How To Make Potassium Perchlorate

Sure. Use Potassium Chlorate. It s more expensive but since you re so dead-set on avoiding Potassium Perchlorate to the point that you would insult the people kind enough to answer your question, you would be happy to shell out the extra cash.

I mean, it s not like these are actual human beings answering your question, or anything.

I am looking for a simple flash and puff of smoke that I do remotely with electric matches for my magic show? I do not wish to get on a terrorist watch list just to entertain! lol any suggestions?
